I'm surprised at what I see my old high school assigning current students. Graphic novels in English composition? Really? Nothing against Murakami, but if teachers make their students read contemporary fad literature alongside Shakespeare, how will the average casual student readers ever learn to appreciate the classics? How will they be able to differentiate smut from art?
