Your First Time
There's a new meme asking, "What was your first order on Amazon?" I admit, I was quite curious; I really had no idea. Turns out, my first order was in 2001 for this book. Since then, I've spent more money and ordered more books than I care to contemplate.

Man I must be old.
"The Magic Bus: An American Odyssey" by Douglas Brinkley, May 15, 1996.
Wow I remember getting that book and reading it cover to cover by a lake in a shady hammock with a labrador retriever sleeping under it. It was absolutely awesome.
Yes, calcarl, you are old. Heh.
"The King of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord Dunsany. It was the first of far too many.
Careful, Frank. We Smiths stick together, and one of our most fearsome henchmenz is already eastbound and down for the tri-state area on another mission. Don't make him come down there.
Let neither the two suitcases full of stuffed animals, Li'l Lance Corporal jumpers, and a "The Sound Factory Tribute" by The Wiggles DVD he's carrying, nor the "Beckett's Big Gay Uncle" t-shirt he's wearing fool you. He's a serious dude.
IlJedui: I've heard of that! It's supposed to be a big influence on Tolkein.
Carl: Are you related to Scott?
Dunsany was indeed a big influence on Tolkien. Their prose has a similar mythological feeling, though Tolkien told a much larger story.
