Box?

Pardon the vulgarity of the question, but could any female or straight male reader enlighten me as to why a euphemism for the female genital cavity is "box"? 'Cause, while I'm no expert or aficionado of the female genital cavity, but I know what it looks like via porn and stuff, and it in no way reminds me of a box.

No idea. But can you explain to me what a 'transitive pictograph verbalization' is?

Um, maybe because you put things in it?

Ah, Frank, etymology combines two of my favorite subjects: history and language. One of my favorite sites gives us two potential explanations. When looking up box, it seems that eight lives left may be right, since it refers to Australia's "box of tricks," which a vagina certainly might be. But Etymoline also has another explanation: given that a common slang term for "penis" is "tool," a logical extension of this metaphor would be "tool box," which could be painlessly shortened to "box."

Here's to thinking outside the box, and to hoping that you don't think of me as the craftsman to end all tools. . .

Gunn: From what I can gather from Google, Gunn, it's basically what those "ironic" t-shirts with, like, a chicken being choked, are. They graphically illustrate a saying that is itself a metaphor or euphemism for something else. Does that make ANY sense?

Eight Live Left: I LOVE your avatar pictures! It's absolutely beautiful.

Hubbard: Wow! Thanks for all your investigating. What you found makes perfect sense. I bow to you in gratitude and reverence.
